This is a reel to reel tape deck I am selling on e-Bay. I posted the video here so potential buyers could see the machine in operation.

Only if it’s the REAL master recording.
yes, this is right, nothing to add, but what about when playing a studio tape that is made out of the master! This is the correct comparison. Analog master->vinyl Vs Analog master->rtr tape. I think RTR is best, no RIAA and closer to the master format!
The more modern decks have electronic braking, which actually uses the motors to slow the tape down before applying the brakes. The brakes only get applied at the last second before the tape stops. The brake pads actually rot from old age faster than they wear out from use in these machines.
Depends who you ask. Many reel to reel fans insist that these machines sound better than anything else on earth. In my opinion, these machines make good copies of whatever source you feed them. If you start with a good vinyl record, you will get a tape copy that sounds nearly identical to the original vinyl. But it can’t magically recreate anything that is missing from the original source. It does tend to add little boost to the bass, though, so that might help if the original lacks bass.
is the sound quality on these things supposed to be better than vinyl?
Do you still have it? i can’t find it on craigslist.
APRIL 6 2008 - hey i am selling/will trade a like new one of these if you’re in new york, check it out on craigslist . I want to trade it for something audio related IE mic pre, compressor, etc. It works 100% great, heads like new, VUs work, transport and rollers work 110% like new. If you’re in New York call 212-444-8894. Thanks!!! Josh
wow! great deck!
being as 100 dollars is the most i ever held in my life at one time, i sprung for an akai x-150d. needed some major repairs due to a potmetal piece crumbling inside during shipping but i did it and a week later i had it working perfectly. minor quirk is that i cant record individually to the 4 tracks in a synchronized manner, and only accepts 7 inch reels. but i could always spool 1 10 inch rel onto 2 smqller ones i guess. once again minor quirks, but you have a great deck!
Nice deck! Too bad the Left meter doesn’t work…

Sounds identical to recorded cd, more bass warmth.
